Second Life: Continuing [REVOSA], But Smarter

Post by cmdr_nova »

A couple weeks ago, I posted about taking my store down, and doing so almost specifically because of Linden Lab's lack of motivation, or urgency in purging slop out of their marketplace. You know, so people can't make money off of stolen artwork. Needless to say, I thought about it, and felt like this wasn't a great reason to basically kill my store. So, I brought it back, but with some changes, and updates to some older products that were ... definitely in need of some patching.

First, I moved my store to a smaller area that doesn't cost a whole lot, over in Semoshi, and decided to re-use a newer store design that mimics the Backrooms and POOLS.

The next thing I did, since I have a server that this website is hosted on, is I made a fully featured store greeter script that:

* 1: Greets new visitors
* 2: Assigns them a Cyberpunk 2077-ish title/level based on how many visits they've made
* 3: Tracks visits in a secured file elsewhere on my server
* 4: Displays new visits in my Discord server via a webhook
* 5: Provides links to my stuff

The visitor tracking not only notifies to Discord, but you'll also notice here on my website (on desktop mode) that there is now a sidebar element on the left that shows actual unique visits to my store! Since it's brand new ... the number is really low.

I then, attempted to make an auto-invite script for my store's group, but ended up accidentally making something that would indefinitely spam someone while they're in my store. This is pending changes, and may or may not be actually finished. I don't know!

All of this took a lot of time throughout my first night off of the week, but these aren't the only things I did.

For a while now, and almost as long as I've had [REVOSA] open, I've also had the side-business, Ayashi Systems (which used to be called Horcrux Solutions), along with a set of adboards for business minded people, and an online indicator. I knew for a fact that there were some issues with the scripts in these items, and I just had never before gotten around to fixing them, or making them more robust.

Until now.

The online indicator had some legacy issues, where it was handling user profiles over HTTP instead of HTTPS, which is now fixed, and some other minor syntax issues.

The adboards, however, had much more glaring issues.

See, originally, I paid a scripter to make these for me, because I knew nothing about LSL at the time, and wanted to be able to sell alternative adboards people could use in their clubs, businesses, and venues, but have them be more, you know, sleek, and much lighter on the side of land impact. Upon reviewing them, now, in 2025 ... years, and years later, I found that there were duplicate lines, some that would have allowed users to kind of sort of "spoof" a payment and rent a board for free. There were other issues, but I think the most glaring ones aside from the aforementioned, is that the script appeared to be frankensteined together from other scripts, and this was causing a memory leak (something that could crash a sim if many boards are rezzed). These errors were also probably causing potential other issues that I'm not aware of.

I'm a little miffled that the scripter took 6000 linden from me and gave me a script with copy-pasted frankencode, but hey, that was in like ... 2016.

Despite these items making sales over the years, nobody has left any reviews, or contacted me. This would lead me to believe that the items they've been used, nobody experienced any problems ... or they just didn't notice them.

Regardless, they're fixed!

This is about all I've accomplished today, and there's some more things I'd like to do with scripting, specifically in regard to my store, and future products. But, that's for another time.

Why don't you stop on by and see the greeter in action for yourself? Maybe rent some ad-space at the back of the store!
