Today, EA, recently sold to Saudi Arabia and Jared Kushner, is beginning the process of shutting down The Sims Mobile.
Every single time this happens, it becomes more and more apparent that we need initiatives like Stopkillinggames.com, because no matter how apathetic or ambivalent you are toward mobile games, and especially Sims mobile games, there are people who play these games. People who spend money on them. And then, for some reason, it's completely legal to just kill the game. Remove access. No refunds. Portions of how you spent hours of your life are deleted, and gone forever.
It seems illegal.
But, regardless of what sounds legal or not, or whether or not anyone actually wants this to happen. We know EA. They don't listen to players, they don't listen to people. The Sims Mobile is dead.
To my sim I created years and years ago, and refused to retire, I guess this is goodbye?
"Just play Sims Freeplay!"
There's just something off about Freeplay, something I can't really put my finger on? Sure, it's a little more traditional in a Sims game sort of sense, but it's also not. The customization is shallow, the graphics are a bit dated, building feels restrictive, and you know? I just happen to like the Sims 4 styled mobile game more.
Plus, who's to say Freeplay won't have its plug pulled in the coming months, anyway? With EA going private to fascist companies, I'm sure a game with women in it, that wear whatever they want, is not long for this world.
